Making a difference with Research

Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing is making a difference in people’s lives with research where it counts in our community. Our research projects involve students, affect the quality of patient care and patient outcomes and keep nursing staff on the cutting edge of nursing practice.

For Nursing Students in our community

Our PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) or hand held computer project, has been completed. The project ran from 2002-2005  The research data collected, helped us answer students’ questions such as:

  • What is the quickest way I can find the information I need for clinical practice?
  • What is the easiest way I can get information on drug therapy while I am giving care in my nursing student clinicals?

BRCN served as a pilot site for the University of Wisconsin study on "Narrative Pedagogy." Faculty is learning how to connect with students in a different way…. while at the same time making the learning environment more student-centered. The nursing students are being asked:

  • What are the stories that guide your practice?

  • How do narratives bring the patient needs to light?

This program is designed to support the RN’s transition from novice to advanced beginner, and improve retention and turnover rates.
